The understanding of »fast« and »slow« changes when you are already sitting on a bus for six hours until it starts its journey or when you spend four days in a tiny, overloaded pirogue to cover a distance of about 100km. I spent two months travelling through Madagascar, one of the poorest and at the same time most biodiverse countries in the world. The people met us with openness and curiosity – but sometimes also with great scepticism. Small children sometimes even reacted by crying. We learned that children sometimes spread scary stories about white people – this sounded funny at first, but we soon found out that many local communities are fighting against child prostitution brought into the country by white people.
