When I packed my backpack to visit my friend Sterelle in Martinique, I didn't pack my digital camera as usual. This time I wanted to take my grandfather's first camera, an Exa Ihagee, made in Dresden in the 1950s. One of the first cameras for home use, without a sensor for exposure, purely mechanical, packed in a brown leather case. I set out to capture the facets of green on this tiny island between the blue sky and the endless sea. Soon the first problems arose: The film got stuck in the camera. I found a photo lab and they helped me get the film out. After this happened again with the next film, I bought two disposable cameras as a reserve. In the end I had a mixture of different negatives, some of which were scratched because they were stuck in the Exa Ihagee – but these flaws are part of the process, so I decided not to edit them.
